Propagate DB2, VSAM, IMS to Oracle, Sybase, SQL Server, DB2 UDB and other RDBMS

Intelligent Data-Forwarding
Modern data processing environments like data warehouses, HotCopy for DB2, VSAM, IMS to Oracle, Sybase, SQL Server, DB2 UDB and other RDBMSmobile computing, internet-commerce, data migration and high-availability all require an adequate mechanism when being synchronized.

In this day and age the time is simply not available for a replication batch window and to transfer large data by ftp into remote databases. This is no longer considered to be efficient because data provided is neither timely nor consistent.

Companies will continue to need an opportunity to propagate data changes from legacy systems like IMS, CICS and VSAM to databases on z/OS, OS/390, OS/400, Unix, and Windows platforms. This needs to be done immediately, fast, without restrictions in the use of the central systems and not endangering data integrity.

But how can this be achieved, how can the right data be in the right place at the right time?

HotCopy Offers a Solution
HotCopy has the ability to capture changed data at the source database and to propagate only the changes to target databases. This is done in a fast and consistent way, and data integrity on both sides is maintained even when unintentional interruptions should occur. HotCopy performs its synchronous data transfer in the same unit of work as the application's transactions, resulting in minimal impact on performance and maintenance of the legacy applications.

Brief Introduction
Overview
Presentation

Administration of HotCopy is simple. No coding is necessary. The use of ISPF menus leads the user through the entire process. After the data structure of the source database and the data fields to be transferred have been made known to HotCopy, the generated HotCopy-Object will be connected to the data-environment in which it is used (IMS, CICS, Batch). Obviously this definition process takes much less time than a traditional programming-testing procedure.

There are three variants of HotCopy: HotCopy Extract, HotCopy Sockets, and HotCopy Queue.

HotCopy Extract
HotCopy Extract is the simplest way to build an interface. You configure the data source, data fields to be extracted, and conditions to be considered and HotCopy propagates the data in any dataset desired. This dataset can be used and located where the user chooses, e.g. transmit to data warehouse or an FTP-transfer to another location.

You achieve a much simpler interface and a dramatically reduced amount of data being forwarded.

HotCopy Sockets
HotCopy Sockets is the channel to the outer world. In addition to the data extraction it comprises an online connection to clients in the Windows, AS/400, z/OS, OS/390 or Unix-world. On the target system any SQL-database is suitable - such as DB2 for z/OS, DB2 UDB, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase. Since SQL is used as "transporting language", smooth communication over different platforms and simple integration in existing applications and organizational flows are guaranteed. Of course Non-SQL databases may also be used.

HotCopy Queue
The most sophisticated solution is HotCopy Queue. Here the socket layer is replaced by IBM's MQ-Series. The communication transparently flows through message queues, by using SQL as transporting language. It is possible to use HotCopy Queue on all platforms supported by MQ-Series.
